1. Engines & Powertrain
Uses 6-cylinder inline diesel engines (e.g., OM 471) in various power outputs.
Power ranges: for OM 471, options like 421 hp (310 kW) up to ~476 hp (350 kW), depending on version.
High torque at low RPM (many versions peak torque around ~1,100 rpm) to improve drivability.
Transmission: 12-speed automated gearbox (Mercedes PowerShift) for smooth shifts.
Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC): uses GPS + map data to anticipate road topography (hills) to optimize gear shifts, cruise control, and reduce fuel consumption.
2. Aerodynamics
Uses MirrorCam instead of traditional side mirrors: two external cameras feed to 15-inch screens in the cab. This improves aerodynamics and visibility.
Side deflectors and optimized cab design also help reduce drag.
3. Safety Features / Driver Assistance
Active Brake Assist 5: can detect vehicles or pedestrians; if necessary, it can perform full emergency braking to a standstill.
Active Drive Assist: a semi-autonomous system that can steer, brake, and accelerate under certain conditions by using radar + camera; works across a wide speed range.
Sideguard Assist: monitors the truck’s right side (co-driver side) using radar to warn the driver of pedestrians, cyclists or obstacles when turning.
Electronic Parking Brake with a HOLD function, to prevent roll-back on hills.
Stability Control Assist, ABS, and other brake systems: part of the safety suite.
Traffic Sign Assist: can recognize speed limits, “no overtaking,” and warning signs and alerts the driver.
4. Cab & Comfort
Multiple cab sizes: ClassicSpace, StreamSpace, GigaSpace (varies by model)
Spacious interior with good storage: side panels, roof compartments, etc.
Premium sleeper options: beds (top/bottom), fold-up bunk, curtain, sun visor, etc.
Multimedia Cockpit: 2 large screens — one replaces traditional instrument cluster, the other is a multitouch display for climate, infotainment, body functions, etc.
Connectivity: Fleetboard / Uptime system for real-time monitoring & maintenance planning.
5. Fuel Efficiency
Thanks to PPC (Predictive Powertrain Control) + aerodynamic design (MirrorCam, deflectors) + optimized rear axle ratios, fuel consumption is significantly improved.
Drivers can take advantage of coasting (using momentum) and efficient gear shifting strategy.
